Introduction “She has a substantial lyric soprano of exceptional beauty, backed by a solid technique, musicality and communicative power.” “Marianne Fiset a reçu des vivats pour son impeccable O mio babbino d’anthhologie.” BiographySince she was awarded five top prizes in May 2007 from the Montreal International Music Competition, including the First Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award, Marianne Fiset has been hailed by critics and audiences alike. In 2008, she received the “New Artist of the Year” Opus Prize and was named Young Soloist 2008 by the Public Francophone Radios (Radio France - Radio Suisse-Romande - RTBF Belgique - Radio Canada). She was also awarded the title “Révélation Radio-Canada Musique 2008-2009”. Ms. Fiset’s schedule for 2010-2011 includes Mimi in LA BOHEME for Opéra de Montréal, Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI for Opéra de Marseille and Musetta in LA BOHEME for Pacific Opera Victoria. She will be heard in Ravel’s SHEHERAZADE with Jacques Lacombe and Orchestre symphonique de Trois Rivieres, while recitals claim her attention at selected venues in Canada and France. The 2009-2010 season was busy for Ms. Fiset and included her Toronto Symphony debut as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 conducted by Peter Oundjian, Verdi’s REQUIEM for Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with Orquestra Sinfonica RTVE in Madrid, an opera—themed programme for I Musici de Montréal, Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI with Nezet-Seguin and Orchestre Metropolitain du Montreal as well as concerts in the parks, also with Orchestre Metropolitain. In the last few years, Marianne Fiset has been heard in numerous productions of the Opéra de Montréal, including GIANNI SCHICCHI (Lauretta), and Haydn’s IL MONDO DELLA LUNA (Clarice). She has given recitals in London, Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Vancouver, Montréal and Québec City in repertoire ranging from the works of Liszt and Rachmaninoff to Berlioz and Villa-Lobos. Further credits include Opéra de Québec, Saskatoon Opera, and Vancouver Opera, Les Violons du Roy, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, Orchestre symphonique de Tours, Vancouver Symphony and Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra. She also sang at the Festival Vancouver, Festival International de Lanaudière, Festival International du Domaine Forget and at the Bel Canto Festival of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Recordings include ‘Melodiya’ (Moussorgsky, Glinka and Rachmaninov) and a disc featuring music of Ravel, Debussy and Dvorak, both from Analekta.
