DEAN ARTISTS WELCOMES TO THE ROSTER…

Andrea Lett

Andrea Lett

“Lett’s deft handling of Mozart’s phrasing and her crystalline vocal clarity produced a heartbreaking Zerlina” — Neil Weisensel, The Globe and Mail

Manitoba soprano Andrea Lett’s dazzling vocalism and charm led to the Audience Choice award at the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Gala at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto and she has been featured by Santa Fe Opera, San Francisco Opera and the Edmonton Opera in a variety of roles. With repertoire ranging from Messiah with Jane Glover and the Winnipeg Symphony to Adams’ and Sellars’ Girls of the Golden West in San Francisco, Ms. Lett is poised for an exciting career.

Andrea Núñez

Andrea Núñez

“In the critical role of Susanna, Andrea Núñez owned the stage. Every movement, facial expression and pose affirmed her portrayed’s personality. An amazing soprano voice that seems completely effortless, she also possesses a constantly smiling façade that can emphasize the lyrics making the translated projections almost superfluous.” — Danny Gaisin, Ontario Arts Review

A recent graduate of Opéra de Montréal’s prestigious Atelier Lyrique, Andrea Núñez’s performances combine bravura technique and poetry. Her talent has been recognized in the young artist programs at Santa Fe, Calgary and St. Louis and she has represented Canada in competitions in Norway, France and the US where she received the Roberta Peters Award at the George London Competition. Fluent in Spanish, French and English, Ms. Núñez created roles in Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain, Ruo/Hwang’s An American Soldier and has been featured in Die Zauberflöte and Don Pasquale.

“Sills as the kind of talent that rarely comes along, replete with power in her top register but rich in the subtler lower range. Jonelle Sills is a thrill.” – Stephen Bonfield, Ludwig Van Toronto

Canadian Soprano Jonelle Sills has recently been named as one of the CBC Music’s Classical “30 Under 30” performers for 2020.  A Dora Winner in Against the Grain’s Kopernikus by Claude Vivier, she looks forward to Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program with the Vancouver Opera.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Nathan Brock

Nathan Brock

“… I want to single out the work from the pit, under the direction of young Canadian conductor Nathan Brock, who is now Kapellmeister at the Hamburg State Opera, one of the “A” houses in Germany. Given his important job there, a staple such as Die Fledermaus is I’m sure something he knows like the back of his hand.” — Joseph So, Opera Canada

Born in Canada, conductor Nathan Brock is fluent in the style and aesthetic of the traditional European masterworks in all disciplines – Opera, Concert and Ballet. He has been Kapellmeister at the Hamburgsiche Staatsoper and further credits include guest appearances with Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre National de l’Ile de France (Paris), the Toronto and Quebec symphonies, Orchestre pays de la Loire and the opera companies of Tokyo, Berlin, New York and Sweden. Fluent in French, English and German, he has conducted ballet in Canada, Japan, Germany and France.

“Singing the title role, tenor Mathew Dalen delivered a blistering Moor, all smouldering looks and angry young man, top notes exploding like fireworks, sparkling and incandescent.” — Ian Ritchie, Opera Going Toronto

Tenor Matthew Dalen enters his second year as a member of Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal and looks forward to bringing the world of opera to the community through special projects and online streaming. He has been featured by Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Edmonton Opera, Opera on the Avalon and in the title role of Schubert’s Fierabras for Toronto’s Opera in Concert. An alumnus of the Vancouver Opera young artist program, the Alberta native looks forward to appearances with the Toronto and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras.

Evan Korbut

Evan Korbut

“... Korbut had some of the show’s best blending of singing and character. His baritone is in good shape, and he seems a natural at straddling the lines between playing a character who’s at once sympathetic and laughable.” — Jenna Simeonov, Schmopera

Evan Korbut is a Toronto-based Anishinaabe baritone and holds a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Western Ontario.  Heard as the Owl in the premiere of Vancouver Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria’s production of Flight of the Hummingbird by Maxime Goulet,  Korbut is a Dora Award winner as Simms/Spirit Chorus in Shanawdithit by Dean Bury, produced jointly by Tapestry and Opera on the Avalon. He has been heard with VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert as Jamie Paul in The Ecstasy of Rita Joe and in the Canadian Premiere of Schubert’s Fierabras.
