Born in Montreal, French-Canadian baritone Olivier Bergeron made his stage debut at Opéra de Montréal at the age of 16, singing the role of the Younger Brother in Dead Man Walking. A graduate of the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique, he enjoys a budding career both in Europe and North America. Praised for his “impeccable diction”, his “supple and round voice” as well as his “convincing acting” (Opera Canada), he is equally at home performing opera, recitals and concert work.

Upcoming this season, Olivier makes his role debut as Papageno for Ensemble Caprice’s Magic Flute at Montréal’s Maison Symphonique, and company debut with Toronto’s Opera Atelier for Charpentier’s La descente d’Orphée aux Enfers. He also looks forward to appearing with Les idées heureuses in concert, and Opera Fuoco for Monteverdi’s Le Retour d'Ulysse in co-production with Opéra de Massy.

Bergeron presents Schubert’s iconic Winterreise twice in the 26/27 season. Firstly, on tour through New Brunswick with pianist Carl-Philippe Gionet, and then at Montréal’s Chapelle musicale du Bon-Pasteur with Michael McMahon. He also appears in recital with the Festival Klassiek achter de Duinen, and continues to star in Tout ce qu’il reste, an interdisciplinary creation built around Schubert lieder with Vías Danse. The work has been met with critical acclaim in performances at Montréal’s Salle Bourgie, Ottawa’s National Arts Centre, and Domaine Forget de Charlevoix.

Recent engagements include Charpentier motets at the Chapelle Royale de Versailles with Hervé Niquet’s Le Concert Spirituel, Mouret’s Le triomphe des Sens with Festival Musique Montréal Baroque, Bach’s St John Passion with both Chœur Classique and the Brighton Festival, and a debut at Tage Alter Musik Festival in Herne for Legrenzi’s Totila.

As a member of Les Arts Florissant’s Jardin des Voix, Olivier has joined them for a global tour of Charpentier’s Les arts florissants and La descente d’Orphée aux Enfers double-bill production conducted by William Christie. As Discorde and Apollon/Titye, these appearances have taken him to Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional, Valenci'a’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, the Royal Palace of Versailles, and the festivals of Tanglewood, Caramoor, Lucerne, Thiré, and Lanaudière.

Additional projects include his mainstage début with Festival d’opéra de Québec in Bizet’s Carmen under Jacques Lacombe, Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin with pianist Michael McMahon at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, the Fauré Requiem with the McGill Choral Society, performances at the Oxford Song Festival as well as the Lanaudière Festival with pianist Chloé Dumoulin, a joint recital with Laurence Kilsby at the Festival de musique de Lachine alongside Olivier Godin, and Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda at the Abbaye de Royaumont, conducted by Fabio Biondi. He also took part in a tour of Eastern Canada with Jeunesses Musicales Canada’s production of Je chante la nuit/La Voix humaine. His first album, Nuits Blanches, recorded with pianist Olivier Godin, released in September 2025.

Dedicated to the art song repertoire, he has appeared in recital at Wigmore Hall, the Petit Palais and Salle Cortot in Paris, at the Lachine Music Festival, with the Société d'art vocal de Montréal, Salle Bourgie, and at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal. While a member of the Verbier Festival Academy, he was invited to perform Poulenc's Le bal masqué in the UNLTD series with the Ensemble Appassionato.

Following his studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and at the École normale de musique de Paris, he made his European debut in 2017 with Les Talens Lyriques in the title role of La morte d'Orfeo (Landi) at the Abbaye de Royaumont conducted by Christophe Rousset, with whom he also performed Dido and Aeneas at the Festival de musique de Menton. Since then, he has appeared at Opéra Grand Avignon, Opéra de Reims and the Philharmonie de Paris. During his time as a member of Opera Fuoco's young artist program, he performed the roles of Riff (Bernstein's West Side Story), Il Poeta (Salieri's Prima la musica e poi le parole) and Andrea Coclé (Korngold's Die stumme Serenade).
